1. Scope of works

Demolish a section of the external load-bearing brick veneer wall on the north elevation (rear of dwelling, facing the yard) to form a new opening 3.0 m wide for a bi-fold door unit. Opening height: TBC — to suit door unit selected by client. Install temporary propping (acrow props and needles) in accordance with the engineer's detail 2024-E17 before any brickwork or framing is removed. Dwelling constructed 2004 — no asbestos-containing materials expected. If any suspect material is found, stop work immediately and report to the site supervisor.

2. Access and site constraints

All site access, deliveries and material movement via the rear laneway (Cowper Lane) only.
No materials, plant or waste may be stored on the front footpath — Wattle Street is a school drop-off zone.
Skip bin deliveries and pickups between 9:30 am and 2:30 pm only.
Maintain clear pedestrian access along the side path for the occupants at all times.

3. Existing services — isolation required before demolition

Electrical: one GPO and one light switch circuit run in the wall section. To be isolated, locked out and tagged by the licensed electrician (Sam Torres, 0433 555 219) before work starts. Do not commence until isolation is confirmed.
Water: garden tap on the external face of the wall — to be disconnected and capped by the plumber before demolition.
Gas: meter located approx. 4 m west of the work zone — not affected, but protect from impact and keep the exclusion zone clear of it.

4. Materials, salvage and waste

Brick and mortar rubble to the 6 m³ skip in the rear laneway — for recycling, brick/concrete only. No general waste in this skip.
Salvage approx. 60 face bricks in good condition; clean and stack on the pallet beside the shed for patching works.
Timber offcuts and metal to be separated into the marked stockpiles near the rear fence.
Dampen brickwork before and during cutting to suppress dust. Sweep and clear the work area daily.

ATTACHMENT — SWMS-118 SUMMARY: Demolition of external load-bearing wall section

This task involves structural alteration requiring temporary support and is high-risk construction work under the model WHS Regulations. All workers must read and sign this SWMS at the toolbox talk before starting.

Silica dust from cutting brick/mortar	Wet cutting methods; P2 respirator mandatory during all cutting and breaking.
Noise from demolition saw	Hearing protection (Class 5 earmuffs) during cutting operations.
Manual handling of bricks and rubble	Wheelbarrow for rubble; two-person lift for lintels; keep travel path to skip clear.

Mandatory PPE (all workers, whole task): hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel-capped boots, safety glasses, work gloves. Additional PPE during cutting/breaking: P2 respirator and hearing protection.

Faults and problems: report any faulty plant, tools or equipment, unexpected hazards, or anything unclear in this work order to the site supervisor, Priya Nair, before continuing work.
